PBS students win awards


Several students in the Department won achievement awards at the annual PBS Research Day on April 27, 2017.

Kun Qian, a PhD student in Dr. George Zheng’s lab, won the LaRocca Award for Excellence in Research. Finalists for the LaRocca Award were Babak Basiri and Yahya Al Hamhoom.

Liza Ngo, a PhD student in Dr. Zheng’s lab, won First Place for her PhD Poster Presentation. Nhat Quach, a PhD student in Dr. Brian Cummings’s lab, won Second Place for his PhD Poster Presentation. Pooja Mohanty, an MS student in Dr. Shelley Hooks’s lab, won Best MS Poster Presentation.

John Dzimianski, a PhD student in Dr. Scott Pegan’s lab, won PBS Junior Student of the Year.

The guest speakers at PBS Research Day were Dr. Bradley Hanberry, Director of the Center for Clinical and Translational Research Biorepository and Molecular Clinical Trials Laboratory at Emory University, and Dr. Stacy Brown, Associate Professor in the College of Pharmacy at East Tennessee State University. Both are UGA PBS graduates.
