I chose to attend the University of Georgia for
several reasons. I'm originally from the Midwest,
so my initial research into the school was based
mainly on what I could garner from websites.
I really liked the fact that this large and respected
university was situated in a small city environment.
I also liked the fact that Athens has a rich historical
and cultural base, and is located only a hour from
Atlanta.
I was impressed that the faculty in the
Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Sciences Department
researched a broad spectrum of topics, including
drug development and delivery, drug metabolism and
kinetics, bioanalytical chemistry applications, and
toxicology. These factors motivated me to visit the
school and meet with some of the faculty. I was delighted
to find everyone in the department to be friendly and
to take an interest in the student. They didn't see the
student as just a tool to do their research, which is common
in other institutions, but rather they were interested in
educating and mentoring the student to become the best at
what their future goals were, be it industry or academia.
My visit immediately confirmed for me that UGA was the best
choice to continue my education. Here I could enjoy a beautiful
campus, a strong academic program, and most importantly, a beneficial
environment. My first impressions of all that the PBS Department,
UGA and Athens had to offer me have held true throughout my experiences
as a first-year graduate student.
